OUR NEW SURVEY REVEALS THE SHOCKING TRUTH OF IRISH WOMEN’S SEX LIVES
We might have a reputation as being the most prudish nation in Europe, but a revealing new survey undertaken by Irish Tatler has shown that we’re not quite as shy between the sheets as it seems. A selection of 150 responses to our survey were analysed, and showed that Irish women are having plenty of sex, and enjoying it. The survey, which asked mostly 25-40-year-old Irish women, revealed that more than half of the respondents are having sex more than twice a week, and a whopping 70 per cent say they are either ‘quite satisfi ed’ or ‘very satisfi ed’ with their sex lives.
Of those that are married or in long-term relationships, 88 per cent have remained faithful to their current partners, and nearly two thirds say that sex has improved either slightly or dramatically over time. Of our single respondents, just 27 per cent are having regular sex with a number of different partners, indicating that we’re still not a very promiscuous nation, while an overwhelming 88 per cent of all those who answered described the most recent and regular sex they had as either ‘good’ or ‘fantastic’. Only three per cent found their
most recent encounter as ‘disappointing’.
When it comes to risqué sexual scenarios, the most common activity selected was having sex outdoors, which some 73 per cent have done at least once, while 68 per cent replied that they had used a vibrator. Not far behind was roleplay and/or dressing up for their partner, which over half have tried out at 52 per cent. Only 14 per cent have ever had a threesome, but that doesn’t stop over 52 per cent of you fantasising about it. Another 55 per cent have fantasised about a colleague before, 31 per cent about a superior in work, and a shocking 9 per cent have fantasies about their employees! Still the most popular fantasy, nearly 60 per cent of you dream about have sex in the great outdoors, while half, yes half, have thought about dabbling in a same sex encounter. S&M is another popular fantasy – nearly a quarter of you think about it, while 17 per cent have taken part, while partner swapping (just three per cent) and dogging (14 per cent) are less favourite pastimes.

When it comes to sexual health, it’s good to know that 75 per cent of you still use contraception most or all of the time, and condoms are still the most popular contraceptive, with 61 per cent of you choosing them over other forms. One thing Irish women still aren’t good at, however, is initiating the act. Only 12 per cent of you say you regularly initiate sex, with partners doing a lot more of the leg work to get things started in the bedroom. And for those who wish you were having more sex, the top three reasons preventing it are tiredness (51 per cent),
work/stress (40 per cent) and the lack of a regular partner (28 per cent), suggesting the work-life balance remains as big an issue for women as ever.
The good news is, however, that despite being recently voted the second ‘ugliest’ men in the world, Irish guys are still proving themselves where it matters most. When asked to rate their current or most recent sexual partner out of ten, some 18 per cent gave their other half a perfect score, while 64 per cent scored eight or above. They must be doing something right
